Maven rebrands to The Arena Group

Ross LevinsohnRoss Levinsohn is the chief executive officer of The Arena Group and Sports Illustrated CEO Media. In 2019, he began his career as CEO of Sports Illustrated before being promoted to CEO of The Arena Group in 2020. The Arena Group purchased Sports Illustrated’s publishing rights in 2020.

From 2016 to 2019, Levinsohn will serve on the board of Thryv, a company that specializes in both print and digital marketing. As CEO of Tribune Interactive from 2017-2018, he oversaw publication for a portfolio of 100 properties, including the Chicago Tribune, New York Daily News, Baltimore Sun, and Orlando Sentinel. His contributions to CNBC were regular throughout 2016 and 2017.

Ross worked as a Senior Advisor at The Boston Consulting Group in 2016 and 2017. (BCG). In 2014, he co-founded Whisper Advisors, where he developed strategies for the expansion and improvement of businesses of all kinds. In addition, he has served as chief executive officer of Guggenheim Digital Media, director on the board of Tribune, and trustee on the board of American University.

From 2010 to 2012, Ross worked as Yahoo’s Executive VP of the Americas, Interim CEO, and Head of Global Media, where he oversaw $5 billion in sales and $20 billion in market cap.

Ross worked as the Managing Director at Fuse Capital, the President at Fox Interactive Media, the Vice President of Programming at CBS Sportsline, and the Director of Production and Marketing Enterprises at HBO before joining Yahoo.

The Maven firm, which previously oversaw magazines like Sports Illustrated and TheStreet, has rebranded as The Arena Group. The media conglomerate is refocusing its efforts on the sports and financial content of these rebranded sites at the same time as the rebranding.

After officials at The Arena Group added websites in those sectors to its exclusive publishing and technology platform, the company made the most recent in a series of revisions.

Once upon a time, we zeroed on on longtail publishers covering a wide variety of topics. COO of The Arena Group Andrew Kraft deemed that not a practical business approach for our company. The company focuses on acquiring and hosting niche sites in the sports and financial “arenas,” or categories. Cupcakes and Cashmere, a lifestyle blog, and Cancer Connect, an online health resource, are two examples. Sports Illustrated CEO Ross Levinsohn will lead the company forward starting in August of 2020.
