Tom Keane: Empowering space development off the planet with Azure

Azure is one of the most advanced cloud computing services to date, and it has recently made significant strides toward its goal of enabling space-based development on Earth. Cloud services engineer Tom Keane explains that any developer can become a space developer because Azure exists on Earth and in space.

In addition, it is accessible to millions of developers who are familiar with the Azure platform. The Azure Sphere provides a gateway for any device, from drones to smart appliances, to connect with the Internet, interact with other devices on a home network, and benefit from artificial intelligence services on the cloud. Testing AI for Astronaut Safety at the ultimate edge

Microsoft has created an AI training environment beyond high-end video games in the Microsoft Edge browser that space travelers use on the International Space Station. Tom Keane adds that the space station’s mission control AI platform, no longer needed in orbit, is now a test bed for the technology that might someday be used on Earth to help protect astronauts.

“A strong tie between AI and space is critical in terms of going to space and doing things in space,” said Corporate Vice President of Microsoft Azure, Tom Keane. NASA and Microsoft collaborated to create a computer system that can identify the condition of space gloves.

Analytics for spaceborne data using Azure Orbital

Azure Orbital is a platform for satellite data designed to help organizations extract value from that data more efficiently and to enable users with smaller budgets to participate in the space analytics market. Azure Orbital allows space-based modems connected to weather stations and other IoT (Internet of Things) devices to tap into Azure’s considerable computing power. In doing so, Tom Keane finally adds, they can ingest, filter and prepare the data they collect for scientists or other customers on Earth.
