Damien Granderson is an entertainment lawyer in California. He specializes in music and has consulted with artists such as Ziggy Marley (a Grammy award winner), Snoop Dogg, and Marvin Gaye. Mr Granderson advises managers, attorneys, record labels, investors, producers and live performers on protecting their intellectual property rights when using or marketing original work or creative expression.
In his monthly column, he discusses various issues that affect artists, managers and other entertainment business professionals. He is a member of the Entertainment Industry Council of Los Angeles and has participated in congressional briefings on copyright law with the Copyright Office at the United States Library of Congress. Damien Granderson also serves on the board of directors for Hip Hop Congress.
This is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting awareness about Hip Hop culture and protecting its future. In addition, he has interviewed well-known figures such as former President Jimmy Carter and civil rights leader Rev. Joseph Lowery at weekly panel discussions meant to inspire student activism and positive social change through Hip Hop culture. Damien Granderson is a prominent figure within the legal and entertainment US industry.
Mr Granderson was born on the south side of Chicago and attended a Catholic school, Loyola Academy. He attended the University of Southern California, where he graduated with a B.A. in History and Political Science. Later on, Damien Granderson studied abroad at Oxford University in Oxford, England.
While in law school at UCLA, Damien Granderson founded the Black Law Students Association (BLSA). The attorney was awarded an NAACP scholarship while attending UCLA School of Law, where he graduated cum laude with a Juris Doctorate in 1989. After law school, Mr Granderson clerked for The Honorable Cynthia Holcomb Hall at the U.S District Court for the Central District of California.
