Amy’s mission is to make great-tasting food accessible to families with scarce time or money; they want everyone to have time to cook healthy foods. Amy’s Kitchen was founded in 1987 by Andy Berliner and Rachel Berliner.
It is located in Petaluma, California. They began their business by making soup in their home kitchen. Eight years later, Amy’s had grown and sold its products nationwide. Since then, they have been the fastest-growing frozen food company and the largest manufacturer of vegetarian foods in the U.S., with over 250 employees and a $100 million company revenue.
Its products are sold in over 20,000 retail locations across the United States. They have been manufactured under Amy’s label since 1992. Their product line includes over 40 soups and chilis, 25 pizza varieties, 12 frozen desserts, and five breakfast items. Several private-label brands are sold under various store brand names, such as Deli Mex Chilis, Amy’s Organic Soups and Frozen Entrées, Amy’s Kitchen Vegan Meals, and Amy’s Frozen Dinners.
It offers a complete line of products to fit any diet. In addition, they offer delivery and catering services for private parties, events, and other functions.
They have received several awards, including Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Good Manufacturing Practices, Certified Organic by the Non-GMO Project, Organic in Canada, and Eco-Logo certification from the USDA – National Organic Program.
The company was awarded a grant from the USDA to research the development of organic, non-GMO foods for low-income communities. In 2004, Amy’s received an award from the Secretary of the California Business, Transportation, and Housing Agency for its efforts in reducing carbon emissions.
In 2007, the company received a grant from the USDA National Organic Program to use organic ingredients in their soups. Also, that year, they received a Good Food Award from the Bay Area Food Bank for providing 15% of their products to food banks across America. In 2008, Amy’s won an award from CNN Money as one of America’s ten best small businesses.
